From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the group reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
